WEMBO 2021 World Championships Announcement

In April 2021 we told you that the end of July was our decision date for the future of the 2021 WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships.

I am sure that it will come as no surprise to many of you that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WEMBO have taken the decision to defer the 2021 WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships.   The attached announcement explains our reasons and also gives details on transferring or refunding entries.

WEMBO has always been about providing as fair and equal a competition environment as possible.   While it is obvious that we cannot have a world championships in Australia if the Australian borders are closed to international visitors, we also will not hold it if the riders cannot compete on an equal basis.   Having international riders undertake a mandatory quarantine period on arrival would place them at an unfair disadvantage compared to local riders.   At this stage, the advice is that Australia’s borders will still be closed to international visitors into mid 2022.

The next WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships will take place on the magnificent trails, mountains and seaside of Finale Ligure, Italy 27-29 May 2022.

Stay safe, and please contact us if you have any questions.
