WEMBO 2020 World Championships Announcement

In April 2020 we told you that the end of July was our decision date for the future of the 2020 WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships.

I am sure that it will come as no surprise to many of you that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WEMBO have taken the decision to defer the 2020 WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships to 2021.   They will be held on 6/7 November 2021 in Armidale, NSW, Australia;  the same place as 2020 would have been held.   The attached announcement explains our reasons and also gives details on transferring or refunding entries.
WEMBO has always been about providing as fair and equal a competition environment as possible.   While it is obvious that we cannot have a world championships in Australia if the Australian borders are closed to international visitors, we also will not hold it if the riders cannot compete on an equal basis.   Having international riders undertake a mandatory quarantine period on arrival would place them at an unfair disadvantage compared to local riders.   At this stage, the advice is that Australia’s borders will still be closed to international visitors in November 2020.
After Armidale, Australia in 2021, the WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships will return to the location of our first event - the magnificent trails, mountains and seaside of Finale Ligure, Italy.
Stay safe, and please contact me or NEMTB if you have any questions.
